Every Five Years…
A small group of Korean American Rutgers University students begin meeting at Chanyang Presbyterian Church (now known as Praise Presbyterian Church), and form an English-speaking college group.
1993
The college ministry swells and is renamed the English Congregation of Praise Presbyterian Church to more accurately reflect the growing age of its members, which now include not only students but also post-graduates, working professionals, and even a few married couples with children.
1998
2003
With fifty members, the group is officially chartered as an independent church by the Eastern Korean Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church (USA).
2008
The college students of yesteryear gradually marry and start families. Waves of babies start joining the ranks. The congregation grows, and with an increasing need for more worship space, the church moves out of Praise Presbyterian Church’s building and begins renting space from New Destiny Family Worship Center for its Sunday worship services.
Praise Presbyterian Church’s English Congregation is renamed to Graceway Presbyterian Church to acknowledge its separation from Praise and better characterize its aspirations to follow the path of grace. A new chapter begins as the church adjusts to its new location at New Brunswick Theological Seminary, where it continues to meet today.
2013
Graceway’s children’s ministry grows steadily larger—and on some Sundays, children’s attendance outnumbers that of adults. Graceway creates and fills a second full-time pastoral position to nurture, teach, and love the youngest members of its congregation.
2018
With a bustling children’s and youth ministry nestled into the revamped Graceway Education system, headed by a new Director of Christian Education, Graceway celebrates its twenty-year anniversary and excitedly looks ahead to the next five years to come—and beyond.
